August 2, 2011 (Tuesday)

Today was a long day for David. His Dad had to get up early in the morning, drive out to David’s house and drive him back to UCI Medical Center.

David received a radiation treatment. Radiation therapy is used as part of the preparations for a bone marrow transplant (total body irradiation). Radiation in the form of whole brain radiation is also used to prevent recurrence of leukemia in the brain.

Then had to be prepped for a bone marrow aspiration, first he received a dose of Ativan and then a dose of Morphine. Following the bone marrow aspiration he had to have a Spinal tap and then an injection of chemo.

After all that his dad had to drive him all the way home again in afternoon traffic. He slept the most of the way home.
