August 1, 2011 (Monday)

Even though they have a donor, UCLA Medical Center has decided at the last minute they want to cover every base. They asked David's dad to get HLA tested. All the siblings were sent swab (DNA type) kits and none of them were matches. However, because of the rush they sent a kit overnight to his Dad that included two glass tubes in a Styrofoam kit to get his blood tested. He had to find a lab today that would draw his blood and let him leave with the tubes. Every lab I called had to go talk to their supervisors first. Finally, I found a lab close to our work that would draw the blood and then we had to rush it over to the post office to overnight express it to the lab at UCLA.
It was funny when the lady at the counter at the Post Office asked...“Does your package contain anything liquid, perishable, fragile or potentially hazardous?” Joe wanted to say it was blood that we wanted shipped to Transylvania. :) We had to tell the clerk that it was blood and she looked at us pretty funny. Once she heard the whole story and saw the paperwork she put it in the packaged and shipped it. UCLA should get it by Tuesday before noon.
