Several people have been working on trying to find a place for David to stay once he gets discharged from the hospital following his transplant. The location must be in Los Angeles and close to UCLA medical center. The farthest hotel that is listed in the Bone Marrow Transplant Program Guide is 14 miles away from the hospital. Staying at a hotel could get very expensive. If David has to rent a hotel room at $80 a night for 4 weeks the cost would be $2,240 (insurance won't pay for the hotel). David and Chrissy have been told they may need up to $6,000 to cover the additional costs that insurance won't cover.

David's grandmother contacted a large church in LA called the Dream Center. She has a friend on her worship team in Ohio that is an acquaintance of the founder, Matthew Barnett. She is trying to work with a staff member in Matthew's office to find a place.
Thu called to confirm that David's transplant would be at UCLA, she was going to contact friends in the area to see if anyone of them might have a room that he could stay at while he was there.

Linda Volker, a friend from our church contacted the VA in an attempt to find out as much information as possible to help David. One this was to try to restart paperwork regarding the denied claim of David getting the leukemia due to his time served in Iraq with the Army. Joe ended up talking to the VA on Friday and there may still be a possibility that David may be able to stay at the VA house in LA following his transplant. The VA representative was going to call Chrissy to discuss.

If anyone else has friends or family with a 14 mile radius of UCLA that might be willing to host David and his caretaker for 4 - 6 weeks, please let us know. I'm sure there would be some restrictions regarding cleanliness, avoiding crowds and having a private bathroom. He will need to soak in a bathtub daily with an antibiotic to protect him from infection. He will be Neutropenic and his caretaker will need access to the kitchen to prepare food that will meet his special diet needs. He still doesn't have a scheduled date yet for the bone marrow transplant.
