David started receiving IV nutrition last night. It's called Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) and it's administered through his port-a-cath. The equipment was delivered yesterday and the home nurse came and showed David and Chrissy how to mix all the ingredients. Chrissy will have to mix the vials of prescribed nutrients everyday.
Currently the machine pumps a bag of "food" every 24 hours. Then it will be adjusted to pump the mixture every 18 hours and eventually David said it will be emptied every 16 hours.
David said "I have five proteim/food supplemental bags in our fridge, they have taken over!!!! Along with the syrindged vitamins" he also said that the guy who delivered the equipment last night was really funny and was teasing Chrissy that he learned his information from the Pennysaver.
The doctor prescribed the TPN because they didn't know how much David had been vomiting....David said, "We thought that throwing up three times a day was normal....but the nurses got all freaked out and said: no only like back in the 1900's...they said that no one throws up anymore at this current time......"
