Sept. 8, 2012 (Saturday)

In the morning he told Chrissy that it feels like the left side of his head is being “eaten by termites”, he had a horrible headache and wants ice packs on his head constantly. He has bad shoulder pain and elbow pain. At 8:30 am he said his Pain level was an 8 or 9 out of 10.

Was able to eat 2 bites of Jello and sip some chicken broth and wanted sheets on the window to block out the light.

At 2 pm he was taken for a CT scan which showed that David has an enlarged spleen and liver but no signs of infection.

They inserted a PICC line and David had his first dose of chemo (Ara-C and Methotrexate) he was also given steroids to help shrink the swelling.

Their pastor’s wife, Cora brought lunch and went and picked up the kids and took them to the park to play.

Sometime in the afternoon he started feeling better, Chrissy made sure David received the anti-nausea medication “Emend” ahead of time. It’s a very expensive drug but the only one that seems to help.

David started a craving a donut at about 8 pm and he asked Chrissy to walk down to the cafeteria to see if there were any donuts As Chrissy walked down the hallway towards the elevator she saw a family with 3 boxes of Crispy Cream donuts. Chrissy got up the courage to ask if she could buy one from them knowing she wouldn’t find any in the cafeteria. When they heard that it was a patient they gave her two (still hot). When she went back to show them a picture of David enjoying the donut and to say thank you, they gave her a third. God does provide in the most fun ways sometimes.

David’s sister Elena got a tattoo on her foot in honor of David.
