August 23, 2011 (Tuesday)

Yesterday David was taken to radiation at 6:15 am and didn’t return to his room until 10:00 am.  He had radiation for 7 minutes on one side of his body and then endures another full 7 minutes on the other side, totaling 14 minutes in the morning. He also had to do the same process at 5:00pm. That’s 28 minutes of being stuck on a microwave. He says the radiation itself isn’t painful, what hurts is holding still for 7 minutes straight. They give him Tylenol and Benadryl so he gets very sleepy.

He was scheduled to have his PICC line removed and have a “Groshong” Catheter inserted at 3:30 pm. The procedure was supposed to be 20 minutes long. However, they told David that his anatomy was different and they ended up having to give him a “Hickman” central line. David said it was very painful. He threw up from the anesthesia. He was so tired by the end of the day he sent Chrissy a text message at 7:30 pm saying an early goodnight. They were going to do a chest X-Ray today to make sure it’s in place correctly.

David had radiation again this morning and at 3:30 pm this afternoon. His skin looks like he is a bit sun burnt. He has his next radiation treatment at 5 am on Wednesday.

We arrived today with supplies he had requested, we brought a pair of hair clippers and he had us buzz his hair in anticipation of him losing it.

His potassium levels were low so the nurse was hooking up an IV when we left.

Last night was the Pampered Chef fundraiser at Eileen Rowe’s.
