Sandy Rinks the dispatcher at the Riverside Sheriffs organized a wonderful Christmas party. They provided toys for the kids and supplies for David & Chrissy and the baby.

Here is an article from the February 2011 RSO Reader about the party…

Each year, the staff at the Riverside County Sheriff ’s Communication Center come together to help those in need during the holiday season. This year, the decision was made to adopt a family from our Department. As some of you may remember, Deputy David Griffin was featured in an article in the February 2010 issue of The RSO Reader. Deputy Griffin was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on January 22, 2010, and immediately began undergoing treatment and was not able to work. In the article, it mentioned a blog where the family was documenting Deputy Griffin’s progress. Sheriff’s 911 COII Sandy Rinks began following the blog on a regular basis and was deeply touched by Deputy Griffin’s story. SCOII Rinks learned that Deputy Griffin’s catastrophic time banks would soon be exhausted and he was still not well enough to return to work.

SCOII Rinks along with Senior SCO Pauline Soria, SCOII Jen Lazenby and Senior SCO April Irwin worked together to get the word out that the Griffin family was going to be adopted by the Communication’s Center for Christmas. The outpouring of support for this family was overwhelming. Gift cards, money, toys and other items were donated. The generosity of our dispatchers really made a difference for the Griffin family.

On December 14, 2010, we invited the Griffin family to the Communications Center on Alessandro Boulevard for dinner and to be presented with gifts. Deputy David Griffin, his wife Chrissy and their children; Ethan, Anna and Titus came and toured the Communications Center and spent several hours visiting with everyone. Chrissy told us the kids were so excited about going to the “Police Party.” A few days later, Chrissy sent me a message on Facebook thanking us for a wonderful evening and in her own words, “We have a big GOD and HE provides in big ways…ALL OF YOU!!! Merry Christmas!”
